Mahakala Eight dieties Empowerment, Gur Lhagyed

The Mahakala Eight dieties Empowerment, Gur Lhagyed.

The required qualification to bestow this initiation has kindly been Endorsed by His Holiness Sakya Trizin, after HE Zimwock Tulku completed his 7 months retreat on Hevajra.

Saturday 27 November 2010, 9.30 am – 5pm

About Mahakala:

Mahakala, Nagpo chenpo, Gurgyi Gonpo, and Wooden gong bearer, are synonyms of the saviour of the Pavilion. He is associated with the eastern continent, and if you observe carefully you can see him sculptured on the Ancient Stupas, where he represents the activities of the Buddha’s in their care and assistance to Dharma practitioners.

As a dharma protector Mahakala is considered second only to Vajra Pani (the Lord of Secret), who is a stage higher to the Pavilion Saviour. In the four classes of Mahayana Buddhism, the Dharmapala’s represent distinctly different qualities and aspects, but in their essence they are one, with Mahakala being their king. He can subdue, he can purify, he can empower, and he can diminish the vicissitudes. All this assistance is accorded to the worshipers who have the right application of bodhicitta and the correct motivation, and who will then see their Boddhicitta growing rapidly without getting too much troubled or distracted by worldly Dharmas

From the heart of Noble Avalokiteshvara emerges a dark blue HUM syllable that immediately and Instantaneous transforms into the Protector of Wisdom Mahakala, the Lord of the Vajra Pavilion, “The Great Dark One” , GurGi Gonpo.

Sakya: Gurgi Gonpo
Kagyud Bernakchen.
Nyingma: Chagdruk
Gelug: Chakzhi

This Initiation is part of the gradual path, and is relevant for the courageous and dedicated dharma students who (in addition to their aspiration) have decided to proceed and implement the application of the bodhicitta path. Dharma practitioners do not generally do practices associated with Dharmapalas such as Mahakala until they have made relevant progress with the fundamental core of Mahayana teachings, and have listened, focused and contemplated on the Foundation Practices. Doing any such Dharmapalas practices requires having received the empowerment to do so.

As HE Zimwock Rinpoche recently commented on the Mahakala practices, “It is the complementary ticket to overflow the blessings” .
