Animal Blessing

Medicine Buddha Animal Blessing 2011

Everyone is welcome to the third annual event for performing spiritual blessings for our pets and animal companions. Our pets not only give us love and companionship but also the opportunity for us to show our care and consideration to them. In Australia, our pets and those animals in our care are the happy recipients of our loving kindness and compassion in the form of food, shelter, medicine and affection, but these animals cannot practise the Dharma like the fortunate beings in the human realm. Although animals cannot listen to teachings, their minds are still very receptive to blessings.

H.E. Zimwock Rinpoche will in addition to the direct blessing of the animals present, also perform a Buddhist prayer of liberation for all the other animals that continue to suffer in the world, such as the near extinct species, animals suffering in the wild, animals used in experiments, fur farms and those that are abused and without loving care. This is followed by a smoke puja for the deceased ones.

At Ruffey Park Lake, H.E. Zimwock Rinpoche of Jamchen Buddhist Centre in Balwyn will conduct a Blessing Ceremony for animals. The blessings are for the long life, good health and future rebirth of your pet. Participants can join in the ceremony with His Eminence, as there will be a text in English handed out.

Come along and bring your animals. This is a really beautiful thing to do for them. Animals that are unable to come to the park can also be included in the ceremony by giving their names to the coordinator. Each animal will receive a special blessing cord blessed by His Eminence Zimwock Rinpoche. They will also receive a small gift of blessed food. Please let us know the type of animal you are bringing so we can arrange a suitable food gift.

After the ceremony there will be a Jamchen barbeque to which all are invited. Please bring some food to share.
